Welcome to Greenwich

The autumn is my favourite time for shopping - just because I'm not going back to school doesn't mean I can't pop into Bullfrogs for a new pair of shoes! Belle and Babanya are buzzing with beautiful winter collections, and So Organic has gorgeous new products for pepping up your beauty regime as the days start to get colder.

It's business as usual at Greenwich Market and there's excitement brewing around town at the impending visit from the BBC's Antiques Roadshow who will be at the Old Royal Naval College on Thursday 1 October. If you've raided the attic and didn't find anything of note, nip to the market on Thursdays to see if you can pick up an intriguing treasure that will blow the valuers' socks off!

Happy shopping...    Nicola

Hit the roof!

Some tickets are still available for the Greenwich Comedy Festival this weekend so don't miss out!

And if you like comedy with a twist, be sure to check out Arthur Smith hosting silent comedy from the roof top at the Old Royal Naval College. Bizarre - but brilliant! And a recession busting £10 to boot.

To book tickets to all shows visit www.greenwichcomedyfestival.co.uk

(If you miss out on the festival but love comedy, don't forget to check out Up The Creek, one of the longest established comedy clubs in London, in the heart of our town centre.)

Michelle Nomwa at The Greenwich Boutique

Greenwich Boutique on Greenwich Church Street is home to a dizzying array of fashion designers not least of whom is Michelle Nomwa. The 24-year old South African fashion designer has just picked up the Southern Africa Achievers Award for Fashion, just one year after forming her label with the help of funding from the Prince's Trust.

Michelle who is South African born, travels to South Africa to gain inspiration for her collection and uses local fabric and seamstresses to sew the garments. Her stunning pieces, many of which are hand embroidered, range from £65 to £500 for a bespoke wedding dress.

For more information call Michelle on 07837 825176.

Autumn arrives at United Ideas

United Ideas this week unveils its new charming collection of gorgeous cardigans just in time to catch the nip in the air.

The highly desirable cardies, which are hand knitted and hand embroidered in Peru - the women embroider and the men knit - feature an array of themes such as this sporty number - very apt in the week that England qualified for the 2010 World Cup - as well as some very pretty designs decorated with ribbon, sequins and beading.

United Ideas also continue to delight us with their £1 finger puppets - new to the family are parrots, toucans, ladybirds and turtles!

Game on at Compendia

We've just got wind that Pub in the Park, planned for Greenwich Park next weekend has been cancelled! What a shocker! But no fear because Greenwich has plenty of reals pubs; from the cool Coach and Horses to the cosy Admiral Hardy there's no shortage of classic English hostelries serving good beer and traditional grub.

And if it's traditional pub games that take your fancy then do pop by Compendia in Greenwich Market where they sell bagatelle (the predecessor of the modern pinball game), mini table skittles, shove ha'penny, backgammon and all manner of board games, from classic Monoploy and Scrabble through to some more modern concoctions such as the Pirates of the Caribbean game!

On top of this are cards, dominoes and carrom - ask owner Rob Toogood for an introduction to the fascinating game.
