Welcome to Greenwich

First of all a big welcome to sofa-specialist Darlings of Chelsea, new to Greenwich Church Street, and Happy Birthday to Greenwich Printmakers, currently celebrating its 30th birthday.

Not to be outdone, Warwick Leadlay Gallery has just turned 35, having opened in 1974! It's celebrating this milestone with the imminent launch of the long-awaited 'Greenwich' poster. No home with hanging space in London should be without one.

At the other end of the scale we have Lush Designs, Beauty and the Bib and Rhodes Bakery all celebrating their first birthdays in Greenwich this month. Congratulations to them all - and look out for special birthday offers in-store...

WIn tickets for Greenwich Comedy Festival

Look out for this logo in the windows of many of the town centre shops - it's your chance to pop inside and win a pair of tickets to the inaugural Greenwich Comedy Festival, 7-13 September.

Taking place across Greenwich Theatre, Up The Creek and a whopping 1,000-seat tent set in the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College, the week-long festival has a super impressive line-up featuring comedy heavyweights such as Ardal O'Hanlon, Arthur Smith and Jo Brand.

We have 20 pairs of tickets to give away - just write your name on the entry card, hand to the lovely shopkeeper and you'll be entered for the big prize draw.

If you're not lucky enough to win a ticket, there are still some on sale - but be quick! Visit www.greenwichcomedyfestival.co.uk to find out more.

Get into bed with Nauticalia

Nauticalia on Nelson Road is quite the Aladdin's Cave. It sells all manner of items - anything connected in some way to ships and sea, time and tides, wind and weather, stars and skies.

Now this pretty much gives it a mandate to sell everything under the sun - but just when you think you can't be surprised by the Nauticalia team's ingenuity and talent for picking out things you didn't know you needed but will make your life infinitely better, they start selling a revolutionary sleeping bag with arms and legs!

The bag-cum-suit has zipped openings for your hands and reinforced fabric at the feet so you can shuffle around and make the tea whilst remaining delightfully warm! Available in two colours and two sizes, it's a snip at £89.

But thanks to the wonderful designers at Joy you can afford to channel the Chanel this season and get that alluring look. Choose from this adorable Breton-inspired striped tee (£35), pretty lace skirt (£30) and for the finishing touch - mais bien sûr- a gorgeous pearl bracelet (just £12).

And better still there's no need to wait! These and other new pieces - from sexy, sharp, micro party dresses in passionate pinks and purples to 1940s austerity-inspired autumnal velvet and tweed workwear - are starting to hit the Nelson Road store now. On your marks, get set, shop!

Greenwich Market hosts charity frolics

Greenwich Market is surely the friendliest and most buzzing market in London. And on Sunday 30 August it's set for even more activity than usual with a special fundraising day in aid of Childline and Charlton School.

There'll be live music, face painting and a kids' jewellery-making workshop. And if that wasn't enough, the lovely, talented seamstresses from The Studio (pictured left) will be holding tutu-making classes for kids of all ages. Choose from a 'no sew' version or, for the more adventurous, get to grips with the various sewing machines provided to create a unique pièce de résistance!

East Greenwich Fire Fighters will also be making an appearance (that got your attention) and the day will conclude with the now famous evening auction with Vic from 7pm to 9pm outside the Coach and Horses pub. Bring a smile - and your pennies!
